Check the project directions and make sure your research is directed at answering the specific questions listed. Go beyond finding pictures to make your powerpoint "pretty". I am more interested in the sites/texts you read from and the quality of the information you gather. Pictures are supplemetary to the facts you collect. Using the blog, tell me which questions you have answered so far. I want to see REAL progress beyond pictures and a list of web sites.
Good luck,
Ms. B

ReplyDeleteI have answered the question in my group about the role of MAD magazine and underground comics. MAD magazine was developed by EC comics (not DC comics) and was a just a small idea that originally failed to sell but it grew into a well known comic/magazine despite the publication of the seduction of the innocent and also despite EC's failure to sell its other comics and then MAD magazine became EC's only publication.
ReplyDeleteHere is a comment. So far we have answered the questions: "Focus in depth on a graphic novelist or comics creator, construct timelines/chronology of selected author's work, Provide examples of selected author's most controversial/famous/award winning artwork and stories, and provide a works cited page according to MLA style guidelines." We have gotten more than half of our powerpoint done and our main project is also close to complete.
ReplyDeleteSo far in our project we have focused on finding information about Frank Miller. We found a great website "comicbookdb.com" that has answered alot of the questions we've been asked to answer in our project. Specifically, the webiste has a chronological list of all of Miller's works and his various awards. Another source, a book on Graphic Novelists, contained biographical information about Miller and talked about his most famous works. The book "A History of Comic Art" had a couple short paragraphs on how some of Miller's work changed the entire comics medium. This information helps show examples of Miller's most famous/controversial/award winning work. This is the kind of information we've gathered so far and it has helped us answer the questions for our project.
ReplyDeleteBrandon has been doing a great job and the info that he's gotten is really good too. I've been doing the timeline using a book that Ms. Spraker found for us. She's a great librarian. It is about how comics reflect what is going on in history. We also found a really awesome handout that Ms. Bakis gave to us. It has definitions that we can use when we need to define "comics" and "graphic novel". We are very resourceful. Matt has been doing an okay job.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone! I have been making wonderful progress as of yet! Its wonderful! Lydia is a fantastic partner, while brandon has been nothing but under - par. While we are somewhat behind, we hope to make a quantum leap as of yet. You should probably read "Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels" Because its one of the best books ever written.
ReplyDeleteMatt I believe you meant to say "everything but under - par" as far as my work effort. As far as research is going, I stumbled across Will Eisner's obituary on the NY Times database and also on ABC Clio I found out more about Fredric Wertham and his vendetta against comics with the publication of the seduction of the innocent. I also found an article on Roy Lichtenstein who created famous comic images and is considered the Andy Warhol of that medium.
ReplyDeleteNo brandon, i ment under-par. Totally under par. If you were playing golf, tiger woods would come no where even close, and you would win every golf championship ever held. I've located some wonderful links on wikipedia to sources that are more reliable for definitions of Comix, Comics, and Graphic Novel. The paper is done and things are a sunny as the sky is outside today!!
